A magnet is a material that can attracted certain types of metal.
Earth's magnetic field is generated by it's core, and compasses point the same way the earth's magnetic field does.

An electromagnetic field is created when a current flows through a wire and it can be reversed by changing the direction of the current.
Because the strength of electromagnets can be adjusted by the amount of current flowing through, it is used on cranes to handle iron and steel which can be easily picked up and dropped.
